Galeries Lafayette Expands to India With a Flagship Store in Mumbai

French luxury retailer Galeries Lafayette will open its first Indian flagship this November in Mumbai’s historic Kala Ghoda district, marking one of its boldest international moves in years.
The store spans over 8,000 m² (≈ 90,000 ft²) and will feature more than 250 premium brands across fashion, beauty, and accessories, developed in partnership with Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Limited (ABFRL).
This expansion represents the company’s most ambitious Asian venture since its debut in China more than a decade ago.
“India is ready to become one of the world’s key luxury markets — the timing is finally right,” said a company spokesperson.
A Delhi opening is already planned within the next two years, reinforcing Lafayette’s strategy of targeting cities with a rising affluent class — digital-savvy, globally connected, and increasingly drawn to European luxury culture.
