Dolce & Gabbana launches ‘Fefé,’ its first luxury fragrance for dogs
Dolce & Gabbana has recently launched a luxury perfume for dogs called "Fefé," inspired by the unconditional love Domenico Dolce feels for his own poodle, also named Fefé. This new fragrance for dogs is an innovative move in the luxury pet market, a sector that has seen significant growth in recent years. Fefé stands out as an alcohol-free fragrance specifically designed not to be bothersome for dogs. It is formulated with fresh and delicate notes of ylang-ylang, musk, and sandalwood, providing a tender and enveloping aroma.
The perfume is sold in a green lacquered glass bottle with a red metal cap and a 24-carat gold-plated paw, a design that reflects the typical elegance and exclusivity of Dolce & Gabbana. The price of Fefé is 99 euros (around 108 dollars) for a 100-milliliter bottle.
Although the fragrance has been certified as suitable for animal use under the Safe Pet Cosmetics protocol, designed to ensure the safety of pet cosmetic products at a level comparable to those for humans, the initiative has not been without criticism. Some veterinarians have expressed concerns that using perfumes could interfere with dogs' natural sense of smell, which is crucial for their recognition and diagnosis of potential health issues.
Additionally, certain experts argue that such products could mask bad odors that indicate underlying conditions, such as dermatological problems or infections.
Despite these concerns, many dog owners and groomers have positively received the launch, highlighting that the perfume is gentle and well-accepted by pets.
Furthermore, as part of a marketing strategy, purchasing the perfume includes a personalized Dolce & Gabbana collar, adding an extra touch of luxury to the experience.
Fefé by Dolce & Gabbana represents a novel foray into the luxury pet market, aimed at those seeking exclusive and sophisticated products for their furry companions. However, the choice to use perfumes on dogs remains a debated topic within the veterinary community.
