Continuing its longstanding support for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, LVMH has funded the acquisition of an Impressionist masterpiece by French painter Gustave Caillebotte. The work, entitled Partie de Bateau (A Boating Party), is part of a series of a dozen groundbreaking paintings and pastels done by the artist around 1877-1879.
This national treasure is now on display in the Impressionist gallery at the Musée d’Orsay. In 2024 the painting will tour France as part of festivities marking the 150th anniversary of Impressionism, enabling a broad public to enjoy the masterpiece.
French Minister of Culture Rima Abdul Malak said: “Impressionism was born in France and continues to spark enormous enthusiasm among the public. Thanks to this exceptional gift from LVMH, I am thrilled that this masterpiece has been added to the country’s national heritage treasures and will be displayed in cities across France. This is the first time a nationwide tour has been organized for a national treasure artwork.”
Jean-Paul Claverie, Adviser to Bernard Arnault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of LVMH, added: “We are delighted that the philanthropy of LVMH and its Maisons has ensured that one of the few Impressionist masterpieces still held privately will remain in France and enrich the collections of the Musée d’Orsay. This donation reaffirms LVMH’s deep commitment to the preservation and promotion of France’s unique artistic and cultural heritage.”
