Goodbye Casual, Hello Formal! The Resurgence of the Suit and Tie in Men’s Fashion

In the last decade, men’s fashion has undergone a drastic change. The casual and athleisure style, which combined sportswear with casual clothing, dominated the men’s fashion scene, with men of all ages opting for the comfort and ease of movement that these styles offered. Sweatshirts, joggers, sneakers, and t-shirts became the norm for most men, whether working from home, going out, or even for more social occasions. However, recently, we have witnessed a resurgence of formal style, with more men choosing to dress in an elegant and sophisticated manner.

The Return of Elegant Fashion

The suit and tie have long been symbols of professionalism and elegance. Although many workplaces adopted more relaxed dress codes, allowing employees to dress more casually, men’s fashion is experiencing a return to elegance. Shirts, dress trousers, tailored suits, and ties are becoming popular again among men of all ages.
This resurgence of elegant fashion can be attributed to several factors. First, after the pandemic and working from home, many people have eagerly needed to dress more formally. Dressing well can have a positive impact on confidence and self-esteem, and many people find that it helps them feel more productive and focused.

Additionally, fashion is always cyclical, and after several years of athleisure style dominance, it was natural for men’s fashion to experience a change.

Another factor contributing to this change is the growing importance of sustainability in fashion. The fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world, and there is a growing awareness of the need to make sustainable changes. Formal clothing, often made with better quality materials and expected to last longer, is perceived as a more sustainable option than sportswear, which is often mass-produced and wears out quickly.

The Decline of Athleisure Style

Although the athleisure style has not completely disappeared, it has certainly lost some of its popularity. Many brands that previously focused exclusively on sportswear and athleisure are expanding their offerings to include more formal and elegant options. Additionally, there is a growing awareness of the importance of appropriate attire for different occasions. Although sportswear may be appropriate for the gym or relaxing at home, more and more men are choosing to dress more formally for work or social events.
Additionally, the athleisure style has been criticised for being too casual for many occasions. Although it is comfortable and functional, it is often perceived as unprofessional or inappropriate for certain settings. As more men return to the office and attend in-person events, there is a growing demand for clothing that is appropriate and stylish.

Men’s fashion is experiencing a return to elegance and formality, with a resurgence of the suit and tie. Although the athleisure style has not completely disappeared, its popularity has declined as more men opt for more formal and sophisticated attire. This shift in men’s fashion is refreshing and welcome, and it shows that, despite changing trends, fashion is cyclical, and elegance and sophistication never go out of style.
