Just days after TAG Heuer launched the second-generation Connected Modular 45, Montblanc has hit back with its very first smartwatch, the €890 Montblanc Summit.
The luxury smartwatch runs Android Wear 2.0 and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100. To give the feeling of a “mechanical watch on the wrist”, the Montblanc Summit’s display is covered by a slightly curved sapphire glass, said to be a world first in smartwatches. Montblanc claims its battery lasts one full day.
“In the creation of the Montblanc Summit’s design, we wanted to bring a one-of-a-kind vintage design expression into this new product category to inspire the younger generation who appreciates the vintage look, especially when it is combined with high quality steel and titanium cases and contemporary straps that give the feeling of a mechanical watch on the wrist,” said Montblanc.
“As such, the 1858 collection has served as the main inspiration for the 46mm watch case design, as well as for the classic watch faces, which are a digital representation of the 1858 collection.”
Elsewhere, the Montblanc Summit has a full round touchscreen display and microphones where users can ask Google Assistant for information, directions or translations, and to help perform tasks like setting reminders or dictating emails. When there isn’t time to start typing a reply on a phone, the Montblanc Summit offers smart replies using the keyboard, swiping, handwriting and voice messages.
On the rear of the watch is an integrated heart-rate monitor alongside a Montblanc sports watch face that shows daily fitness progress in the shape of a summit. Montblanc has partnered with Runtastic, which comes pre-loaded onto each Montblanc Summit watch, to let wearers more accurately monitor their heart and keep track of fitness goals.
Like TAG’s customisable watch, Montblanc Summit has more than 300 different Montblanc wearable combinations, and wearers can additionally get a bespoke dial. The watch is priced at €890. Other local pricing and release date is to be announced.
